Manis, Canning, and Associates would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to former Delegate Darryl Barnes on his appointment as Chair of the Prince George’s County Planning Board. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, which plays a critical role in shaping the region’s development and administration of parks, has been a long-standing client of Manis, Canning, and Associates. We are proud to recognize this milestone!

Darryl Barnes was confirmed unanimously by the Prince George’s County Council, following his nomination by County Executive Aisha Braveboy. In her remarks, Alsobrooks called Barnes a “unifier” with the vision and experience to work collaboratively across branches of government. His selection was met with overwhelming public support, with the council chamber filled to capacity by community leaders, former colleagues, and residents eager to celebrate this new direction.

A former Maryland state delegate representing the 25th District from 2015 to 2023, Barnes brings a wealth of policy knowledge and civic insight to the role. As Chair, he will lead the five-member board responsible for subdivision regulations, site plan approvals, and zoning recommendations. His appointment comes as the board seeks to fill a remaining vacancy, which further highlights the importance and need of Barnes’ steady leadership.

Barnes expressed his excitement and commitment to ensuring Prince George’s County becomes a model of progress. “This is a great day that we have now to forge new relationships,” he shared, emphasizing that the department will aim not only to serve the local community but to become “a destination for the world.” We congratulate Chairman Barnes and look forward to the innovation and energy he will bring to this important role.
