Governor Wes Moore’s deputy chief of staff, Shaina A. Hernandez, will soon take on a new leadership role at the helm of Baltimore’s historic public market system. Beginning in January 2026, Hernandez will serve as CEO and President of the Baltimore Public Markets Corporation, the quasi-governmental nonprofit responsible for overseeing the city’s network of public markets.
A central figure in the Moore Administration’s emergency management and infrastructure response, Hernandez played a key role in coordinating state and federal recovery efforts following the Key Bridge collapse. Over her tenure, she managed a broad portfolio covering nine agencies, including transportation and emergency management, and worked closely across state and local lines to advance administration priorities.
In her new position, Hernandez aims to strengthen the connection between Baltimore’s public markets and the surrounding communities, particularly around improving food access and sustainability. Hernandez’s appointment marks a historic milestone as the first Latina to lead Baltimore’s public market system, which is recognized as the oldest in the nation.
