Yesterday House Speaker Joseline A. Peña-Melnyk announced additional staff appointments, committee membership changes, and new caucus appointments. Former Delegate Heather Mizeur (2007-2015) has joined the Speaker’s Office as Director of Communications. The announcement also included a committee change, with Delegate Stuart Schmidt transitioning from the Judiciary Committee to the Government, Labor, and Elections Committee. Additionally, the announcement included new appointments to the House Study Group on Economic Stability, which examines policies and programs affecting economic security for Maryland families.
Speaker Peña-Melnyk also announced appointments to the newly established Rural Caucus, which is intended to elevate rural perspectives and strengthen collaboration across regions of the state. The Speaker described the caucus as “an opportunity for true collaboration to meet the needs of all Marylanders.” The Rural Caucus will focus on ensuring that the priorities of Western Maryland, the Eastern Shore, and Southern Maryland are meaningfully represented in legislative leadership and policymaking.
