Governor Wes Moore delivered his fourth State of the State address, focusing on unity, responsibility, and bettering the lives of all Marylanders.
Reflecting on the past three years, the Governor described progress in economic growth, public safety, education, and health care. Since Governor Moore took office, Maryland has seen the creation of close to 100,000 jobs and the emergence of over 35,000 new businesses. In public education, the state has seen investments, including $10 billion being spent in K-12 schools, as well as an increase in apprenticeships and literacy.
On the issue of public safety, the number of homicides in the state continues to fall, with Baltimore registering one of the lowest homicide rates in decades. Efforts to reform the state’s procurement system, increase childcare availability, prevent overdose deaths, and improve assistance for Maryland’s veterans were also highlighted as key achievements.
Looking ahead, the Governor outlined priorities to “protect, deliver, and lead.” These include protecting healthcare and food assistance in the face of federal policy changes, investing in energy affordability and clean energy development, improving infrastructure and transit-oriented housing, and preparing workers for the emerging artificial intelligence economy.
The address concluded with a call for continued collaboration across party lines and communities, emphasizing Maryland’s history of resilience and its commitment to protecting, delivering for, and leading on behalf of its residents.
