Utility RELIEF Act
The House of Delegates passed the Utility RELIEF Act(HB 1532) by a vote of 108–25, aiming to lower gas and electric bills as early as this summer. The bill cuts the EmPOWER surcharge (about $15-$20/month), with lawmakers estimating at least $150/year in savings. It also reforms utility rate-setting, addresses data centers, and limits future rate hikes. The bill now heads to the Senate with leadership support.

FY 27 Budget
The Senate advanced a $70.8B budget (SB 282). The budget exceeds Spending Affordability Committee targets by maintaining strong reserves and reducing the structural deficit, while slightly decreasing general fund spending. It restores and adds funding for behavioral health, developmental disabilities, childcare, economic growth, and public schools. The plan also includes raises for state employees, sustained Medicaid coverage, utility bill relief for residents, and increased funding for fiscal oversight.
