Beer makes a big economic impact in Maryland, according to the new Beer Serves America report released by the National Beer Wholesalers Association and the Beer Institute. In Maryland, more than 35,000 enthusiastic Americans make their career in the beer industry, which contributes $6.1 billion to the state’s economy while generating $1.1 billion in taxes that support local communities.

Across the nation, the report found the U.S. beer industry contributes $471 billion to the economy, pays more than $142 billion in wages and generates $58 billion in taxes. The beer industry supports more than 2.4 million good jobs across sectors, with 135,000 distribution jobs, 91,000 brewer and importer jobs and 950,000 retail jobs. In total, the report finds the beer industry contributes the equivalent of 1.58% of America’s GDP.
