Governor Wes Moore has appointed Chichi Nyagah-Nash and Michael Huber as deputy chiefs of staff. This marks another step in the administration’s leadership reorganization led by Chief of Staff Lester Davis, who began his role earlier this month. Nyagah-Nash will assume her new position on October 29, followed by Huber on November 12.

Governor Moore emphasized the importance of their appointments in advancing Maryland’s priorities during a pivotal time for the state. He stated that “Chichi and Michael’s expertise will be vital to our administration and the State of Maryland…” He added that their leadership across areas such as economic development, public health, and infrastructure will help Maryland continue to “deliver for our people.”

As part of their respective portfolios, Nyagah-Nash will oversee environmental protection, transportation, general services, information technology, and energy.. Huber will manage economic and workforce development, housing, insurance regulation, public health, education, and human services . Chief of Staff Lester Davis said the two “bring deep experience, steady leadership, and a shared commitment to making government work better for everyone,” underscoring the administration’s mission to strengthen state operations and expand opportunity.

Both appointees bring a wealth of experience from state and local government as well as higher education. Nyagah-Nash currently serves as deputy secretary of the Maryland Department of General Services, where she has led strategic initiatives supporting state infrastructure and operations. Huber, who most recently managed government relations for Johns Hopkins University and Medicine, previously served as chief of staff to both Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and the Baltimore City Council President.
