Governor Wes Moore has appointed Bob Yeager as the new Director of the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation, effective July 1. Yeager succeeds Dan Phillips, who is retiring after more than three decades in public service. “Bob Yeager has dedicated his career to serving the people of Maryland,” said Governor Moore. “We are grateful that he has continued to raise his hand, as he takes on this new role as Director of the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation.”

Yeager has held several leadership roles within state government, most recently serving as Deputy Director at the Department of Assessments and Taxation. His prior roles include Assistant Commissioner for Policy at the Maryland Office of Financial Regulation, where he advised senior officials on policy development to protect consumers and support Maryland’s financial services sector. He also served as Maryland’s state tax sale ombudsman, where he played an integral role in the development of the Maryland Homeowner Protection Program and assisted in advancing more than a dozen tax sale reforms through the General Assembly.

A licensed attorney and active member of several state policy and finance committees, Yeager joined the department in 2018 and brings a background in law, housing security, and legislative strategy. “Together, we will work to honor [Dan Phillips’] example of leadership, partnership, and an enduring commitment to the people of Maryland,” said Governor Moore.
