Governor Moore Calls For A Special Legislative Session – The House of Delegates Will Elect A New Speaker

Governor Wes Moore has issued an executive order calling a special session of the Maryland General Assembly for Tuesday, Dec. 16. Lawmakers will meet to elect a new House Speaker following Speaker Adrienne A. Jones’s announcement that she will step down after six years in the role. Additional matters may also be considered ahead of the 2026 legislative session, which begins Jan. 14, 2026.
